We have defined what single-use or disposable means in our previous article “Single-Use Products”. Disposable products, which are generally made of wood, plastic, foam, paper and cotton, are products that are designed for one-time use and are waste or recycled after use.

The most used material in the production of disposable products is plastic. Plastic is easy to manufacture and inexpensive. But this comes at a high cost and disadvantage to the environment. Discarded plastics after use are difficult to separate and recycle. It takes 100 years for them to decompose and fertilize in nature.

Since plastic is difficult to recycle and cannot be fertilized, harming the environment and living things, and causing many diseases, especially cancer, the use of single-use plastic products has been prohibited or laws have been enacted in many parts of the world, especially in Europe.

As of July 2021, the sale of plastic disposable products has been banned in Europe and disposable wooden products have started to take place on the shelves.

Disadvantages of Disposable wooden products:

• Wood products containing varnish and harmful chemicals are dangerous for nature and living health.
• In terms of price, it is more expensive than plastic. (it is not considered a disadvantage considering the damage it will cause to nature)
• Splinters and cracks in products that are not properly sanded can pose a danger during consumption.
• Some woods such as rhubarb and cedar can damage food with oily resins and strong odors.
• Due to the porous and absorbent structure of the wood, it should not be used for a long time because it can absorb bacteria and moisture from the food.
